does location matter?
I have said it before and am saying it again location actually doesn’t matter. A couple of decades ago having access to the main road and the bus stop was really important because it meant that we could easily travel and get onto a BMTC bus or a private bus to find a safe affordable travel option. With the advent of carriers like Ola and Uber, we are way past that situation. It is like having a personal vehicle and a driver at your beck and call and the need for staying close to commutation point is lost.
Frankly, I haven’t been to Majestic for quite some time. So I am tired of real estate agents who love to sell me a better location property because it is close to the main road or a prominent landmark. I want to have everything I need on a daily basis within the community. It is important that my family has a comfortable life. Access to resources like potable water, cleaner air, better quality food, a well-ventilated home that allow sunlight and fresh air to come inside at all times, access to daily needs like a grocery store, milk booth, or laundry service should be accessible within the community.
I want to go for a walk with my family on traffic-free footpaths designed with the sole idea of letting people walk comfortably. So location is no longer important whether you’re staying in a place that is accessible to the main road or bus stop but it is more practical to have something which is a complete community that meets the requirements of my family.
Walkability is the first thing I will look at when choosing a home. If I can cover all the daily convenience within 15-20 mins, I am happy about the location. Do you think location matters any more?
If you resonate with this idea, you are in the right place. As the world gets closer and better connected, we need to relook at the way we design communities, to be more open, convenient, nurturing, ready for the future. Or else, why would you stay in one?
